Always strive for high expectations but then accept what is given to you graciously.
We tend to expect above the possible and in a sense, this can be damaging. Telling children, the highest is expected of them is unnecessary stress.
Putting undue high expectations on ourselves can be damaging to our own self esteem.
It is better to be content with results than to over achieve particularly when high results equals excessive stress.
Be happy with whatever your results are on anything you do.
