Memories are something which is individual to us. In family a memory can be shared differently and this is because we recall what we feel is closest to us.
Memory is fickle. And memory is selective. No matter how much we think the other person remembers the same – more often than not – it is very different.
Because memory is selective it is important to remember that if there is something that pounds your mind about something you did then it is comforting to remember that that same memory may not be pounding the other person in the situation.
Memory belongs to us and no one else views it the same as we do so don’t beat yourself up if something bothers you from the past because it is probably only you who is bothered by it.
