There are some things we take for granted, electricity is one of them. We tend to coast along day by day without giving much thought to some of the simple things. For me it is waking up and turning on my computer to read the news. It never occurs to me to think about the electricity which powers my Wi-Fi so I can enjoy reading the news on the internet.
I gave this a lot of thought and those people who have been affected by cyclones and flooding, the first thing to generally go is power. And when power goes so does many of the things we don’t think twice about. When power goes down we cannot or should not use the hot water because draining the tank will cause the element to dry out. The refrigerator and freezer should be limited in use so the temperature doesn’t rise. And what about simple things like lights in the dark? The light on the mobile phone can only go so far before it is out of power and needs to be recharged with the electricity which is not working or you can drive around in the car and charge as you go but then you are using too much fuel… Ahh the list goes on.
Yes, electricity is a wonderful commodity and I am so glad I live in this age of convenience. So, when the power goes out, ride the moment, because we do have it jolly good.
